connect to your sense of BELONGING
A Guided Meditation
This meditation is an invitation to connect directly with a felt sense of Belonging within yourself. Here is where a sense of love, safety, and connection can be tapped into regardless of what may be occurring in the world around you.

Why it Works:
As humans we require love, safety and connection to truly thrive in our lives. Together, these qualities create our sense of belonging and purpose in the world. Our ability to develop trust in the world is primed by how these fundamental needs are met by our caregivers as infants and young children.
We have four domains where these basic needs are nourished in order to foster a full experience: in ourselves, with others, in the world at large, and with the Great Mystery (Spirit, Source, the Universe, or God).
Because of our natural helplessness as young children, we learn behaviors and tactics to secure the feelings of love, safety and connection through our caregivers and the world around us. As we mature, access to our inner resources and a relationship with the Great Mystery become available, but relying on these may depend on us using more abstract ideas like "trusting ourselves" or "having faith in what is unseen". Because of this, they may feel less reliable than aiming to secure love, safety, and connection with others and the world. These external sources usually give more tangible and correlative results that affirm or deny the love, safety and connection we seek.
Though these connections are not always fulfilling, they may feel more predictable and dependable. However, this can leave us in a more vulnerable and dependent position where we compromise our unique personal expression and integrity to secure belonging.
By founding a direct connection to a felt sense of belonging within yourself, you can live more authentically, wholeheartedly, and courageously regardless of what may be occurring in the world around you. You become your root source for love, safety and connection, which allows you to more easily grow relationships that are aligned, reciprocal, and genuine with others, the world, and the Great Mystery.
What to Expect:
This is a “parts” meditation inspired by Internal Family Systems and other models that aim to parse out and explore individual aspects of one’s self to gain insight and foster healing.
If that sounds like gibberish, maybe you can relate to an experience where you had two internal voices in conflict; one says you should do the thing while the other says you shouldn’t. Essentially, those are two voices within a larger community of inner characters (which I will call “parts”) that have all emerged in response to experiences and emotions you’ve gone through in the past. Their main objective is to keep you safe and to avoid suffering.
Despite their good intentions, we can reach a point in our lives where their presence keeps us frozen, enraged, bitter, or isolated to avoid the vulnerability of being fully alive.
This meditation is designed to introduce you to the part linked to your innate desire to belong. We locate that desire by first recalling what it feels like to not belong, and from there a door to transformation and insight becomes available.
As with any meditation, repeat practice will deepen and enrich the benefits of this practice.
Questions to Consider:
How might your experience shift if emotions like fear, lack, or disappointment were not dominant in your relationships?
How do you think your life might be different if you felt grounded and nourished by the feeling of being loved, safe and connected within yourself?
This meditation can serve as a template for exploring any other difficult emotion that may arise often in your experience.
